‘Unintended’ radiation from Starlink satellites may disturb radio astronomy observations::Hum from onboard electronics that power SpaceX’s internet-beaming Starlink satellites may disturb radio astronomy observations, a new study has found.
No kidding. I remain astounded that SpaceX got permission to launch the things in the first place.
We need to figure out if this is a tort, or make sure that it’s covered under the same broadcasting laws as signal jamming.
Good point. Even if it isn’t covered in the US, I’m sure someone on the planet have claimed the right to remove equipment that interferes with their terrestrial networks.
Actually brilliant by them. Can’t do earth-based observations anymore? No worries, just put the observatories into orbit, problem solved. How are you gonna get it into orbit? Well SpaceX of course! Truly a brilliant move.
Unintended my ass. You think they wouldn’t have launched because of this?
No worries guys, just a little extra unintended radiation blanketing the earth.
