I always though that Reddit admins of all people would understand that “you don’t mess with Reddit”. Well, apparently not …
Seeing how the vast majority of people stayed and are gladly participating in reddits PR event, I think it’s fair to say that messing with reddit can be fine.
The strange thing about reddit refugees on Lemmy is that they have this weird sense that the platform they left actually died when they did so. The trith is that the vast majority did not migrate and are happily eating their spoonfed shit.
When we say it’s dead, we mean what is used to be is dead. But let’s not pretend the site actually died or is no longer working. We can all (justifiably) think it’s a shit filled shell of it’s former self without being in denial.
I’m a refugee, but I have no illusion about my value to Reddit (or how much my absence will be noticed - barely at all if at all)
I think, for some of us, it’s not like “the platform will die”; it’s “I left the circus. No longer my deal”. Thrive, falter … it’s no longer our business; and that’s freeing.
A quick reminder to everyone that MySpace still exists.
Just because the link doesn’t 404 doesn’t mean that something ain’t dying or dead.
They’ve been propping up Myspace’s corpse like Weekend at Bernie’s since 2008. I feel like they’re trying to do the same thing now with the new version WinAmp. They’re dead to me.
Just like digg is still “working”, dying takes time.
It’s absolutely wild. I saw this meme the other day: https://jlai.lu/post/86996
Some people have lost all grip on reality.
But Facebook and Twitter still exist
Yeah I left Reddit not because it was dying but because it started to change into something that wasn’t for me. It has always changed, but the third party app thing made me realize it was time to move on.
I don’t care what reddits owners do with the platform, I’m just glad to be here now.

As others have pointed out in other posts, they are using Spez as an escape-goat. It makes total sense. Once they get rid of Spez, their policies will remain and the hate will no longer have a tangible target.
Fuck Reddit
Yes, that’s the spirit.
If he hadn’t always been a shithead, maybe. What he’s doing now is the same as he’s always done, just more of it and he no longer has a handler to tell him to knock it off.
Some months in the future…
u/notspez: “Hello Reddit, this is u/notspez. I’m the new CEO of Reddit. Pic related, it’s me. We snoos stand together.”
Reddit: “WE DID IT REDDIT! WE DEFEATED SPEZ! REDDIT IS SAVED! WOHOOOO!!!”
…serious now, I agree with you. It’s a lot like Ellen Pao, except that spez probably knows that he’s being used as scapegoat and he’s OK with it. The business itself is rotten, and the very fact that they’re giving spez a green card to screw with the userbase shows that anyone who they put in place would be as trashy as him. Fuck spez and fuck Reddit Inc.
Ellen Pao all over again.
Tripping with the same stone from the guys that mock people who does it…
Escape goatse paints a more vivid picture. The more despicable and hate-able the hate sink, the better it is for the true masters of the realm.
I feel we’re selling goatse short - a family man with his wedding ring on full display and ever so polite greeting his visitors with hello.jpg
I’m sad we don’t get to see the end of July valuation until the end of August
An escape goat you say?
I really am glad that people are still flaming Reddit but at the same time they are still using the platform which is disappointing. I was really hoping people would accept that Reddit has gone to shit, that there is no going back to the way it was, and to move onto another platform like Lemmy or whatever other alternative.
they intentionally will never post anything of value ever again. Their trolling reddit and its IPO. They arent staying. Likely will ghost it once the IPO is completeEdit: i misunderstood you, found somthing that invalidates my words
I wish your original comment was the case but sadly I don’t think that’s the case.
I remember a few weeks ago, I tried to downvote spez’s comments but I repeatedly just got the “failed to downvote comment” message. Coincidence? I think not!
they’ll just replace u/spez and change nothing else
Here is our new CEO u/spaz
Baby steps.
“shitweasel” is a great word though. I’m glad I learned it without having to go to reddit. Thanks OP!
IDK what it says about me, but I noticed a subtle(?) nod to ‘one man one jar’ in the portion of the comment chain about sodomizing Steve Huffman with various things.
What have they done with place?
They’re messing with it even more than last time to the point where it’s not even what people are making.
This is so wonderful. The only way to stop the inevitable enshitification of everything is to band together, one way or another, and call it out. Don’t want to be part of it! We’ll make our own place.
With hookers and blackjack, this time?
The people in the screenshot aren’t accomplishing anything but making themselves feel good. Of all the pointless activities in this vast, pointless universe, complaining about reddit on reddit takes the cake
Fuck u/spez, I will blow it all on your face!
What happened in r/place now?
Admins seem to be removing any type of “protest” messages being added to the mural.
Did they get rid of all the fuck Spez messages that were all over it? I don’t want to go to Reddit to check.
Ah yes because that will make it better
Fediverse needs some more fault tolerance before it’ll grow. Hopefully they eventually implement message queues so moderation decisions that fail to federate eventually will.
Who is spez?
Original mod of /r/jailbait
Technically, I think that was violentacrez, and I’m pretty sure spez was added during that period where you could add anyone as a mod without their knowledge or approval. Which still doesn’t excuse spez giving violentacrez a “special award”. Fuck /u/spez.
The internet never forgets, spez.
Steve Huffman. CEO of dog shit Reddit.
