Really glad to see the 80% charge limit for people like me who use their Deck primarily at home.
See that’s one thing I liked about Samsung when I had it, the model I had had a 80% cap, but it read like you were at 100%, there was understandably some backlash because consumers felt like they were being lied to, but it was genuinely in the interest of expanding consumers battery life, so… A white lie?
While it would expand battery life that doesn’t mean their intent was genuine. Could be a concern about their phone’s image: “100%” looks better than “80%”. It sounds like the “you’re too stupid to understand” route.
Well yes thats what I was saying, they made it look like 100% for image. But there’s no reason for capping at 80 other than extending battery life
Pixel has it now too
And LineageOS. Might just be a part of AOSP now.
Yea they’ve changed it to show 80% now. At least on my device (fold 5).
Can only number 80 be picked? I was hoping to be able to pick any number I want. between 50 and 60 is the best for my use case
It’s a slider from 50% to 100%.
IIRC >80% is where you start to get battery degradation depending on the battery chemistry.
Going lower provides no benefit.
Source: my memory from a decade ago, don’t take as fact.
woaa I was literally wondering if they could add that as a feature like 10 minutes ago! Yippee
I READ THAT AS AMD INFIDELS tf is wrong with me
Intel and Nvidia are going on a Crusade lmao
valve is such a damn great firm!!!
lord gaben giveth, never takes away.
Remember when Google was the “Don’t be evil” company?
Valve existed at that point, too.
Why think the verge and not just valves official website?
I was able to get battery limiting via PowerTools and Decky, but I love that they’re baking this into the core.
Love the Bluetooth remote functionality! I can finally turn it on with my Flipper lol.
did anyone get this version to run wayland desktop?
Is this worthy yet on ROG Ally to update from Windows to Steam OS?
“support for all devices that is not officially ‘Powered by SteamOS’ is not final.”
Who does the copyreading before publication at Valve?
I kind of wish they first released a Steam Deck 2 because they might shift their focus towards SteamOS now.
probably best they wait for the next major tech breakthrough at least since we know they’ll never manage a third
I’m just thinking of my past experience where they also left stuff like the Link and SteamOS 1.
Steam Deck is way more successful.
actually wasn’t deck steam os versioned as 3? maybe they broke the cycle
Yeah.
1 was Debian based. 2 was not released. 3. is now Arch based.
They specifically said they’d wait for technological justification for a new version. AMD/Intel simply might not have something at the moment that they can use that is significantly better with similar thermals.
While I understand the sentiment, if they switch to SteamOS as a primary focus, what’s the problem with buying someone else’s handheld that’s built to run SteamOS? There are already handhelds more performant than the Steam Deck out there, once they have official SteamOS support what’s the difference? Don’t get me wrong, I’ve actually bought an absurd number of Steam Decks so far for myself and for friends/family, but once they die, if there’s no Steam Deck 2, I’ll probably just pick up a handheld that is built specifically to run SteamOS
Valve has the most power to set a fair price for these handhelds.
I have a shitty Nintendo switch and no steam deck. Consider yourself lucky the availability is there lol. Steam Deck 2 just sounds like over saturation to me.
