This is too true, I usually do not touch any tech stuff anymore at home, working in IT all day.
Was thinking same, packs from unsold leasing returns. But probably not so.
This. And battery life is amazing.
Raising a kid, if that is what you mean by “raising a family” is a huge drain on anyone’s social battery.
It’s not so much the interaction with the little bugger, although that gets to be a huge drain when they reach puberty, but for me the other associated interactions deplete my battery instantly: P.e. Being forced to be polite to kid’s friends parents, teachers, others that you normally would just ignore because, tbh, most are bigot dumb fucks. I’m really happy that I can delegate many of these chores to my partner, but their batteries are also not limitless.
You should probably check out how far you can go on other irl social interactions before you start a family, and please don’t just do it because others seem to like having their own little happy thing, much of that haplyness is only outwards, and many just break apart catastrophically, which may often be the hardest on the kid involved.
Thy already wrote this will not be powered on 24/7, just lean back and enjoy the pics and story :-)
I also noticed slow dl speeds some weeks ago, and had to restart the download. Nearly did not install it out of growing frustration. But it worked out in the end.
Thank you for that information. It’s a company machine, but if I ever get annoyed enough I’ll try it out. I just f*s my brain that they’re bold enough to change the UI for worse.
tl, did not read all. sry, tired.
“The reality is that while you’ve gotten very good at navigating the operating system that you’ve been using for the past twenty years, very little of that knowledge is useful in GNU/Linux.”
One could add “Or on the next version/release of Windows”, cos they’re breaking that “knowledge” with each new (forced) change on the UI. Yes, I want to right-click on a file and choose “rename” in a context menu, not choose one of a ton of icons, I want excel to open a new instance with a new file, and so on. It kills productivity for me to be forced on these changes.
Would be around 300€ in Germany, on a cheap contract. Limiting myself to one combined NAS/application server atm, with the others turned on only if I want to try sth out.
Yes. Chuck some 5TB Seagate externals. They’re way less pain in the ears, cooler and quieter.
Ray guns everywhere please. Stepped into that beamer trap once, only for my non-DE colleagues to tease me forever with it.
Well for me it does not work (T470s, two docks, different monitors). Well, it does sometimes work after the second reboot.
Yup, with 2,5" Seagates. Reused the enclosure with smaller used enterprise ssds to make cheap USB sticks.
Stolen, bookmarked. Thank you. P.s.: Can’t understand the downvotes either.
No issues here. Have to use (mainly) excel at work, but use libre office calc at home, for years. Hate excel with all my heart. Mainly autocomplete and UI issues, but also issues when using more than one instance with excel. No problems with file exchange, p.e. with my tax person. Imho excel was THE leader but they enshittyfied it to the max.
Fritzboxes are rock stable, and support Wireguard from FritzOS 7.5 onwards, see https://avm.de/service/vpn/wireguard-vpn-zur-fritzbox-am-computer-einrichten/
(Apparently NOT the cable versions!)
What nags me most with them is that you have no separate Firewall controll over their WiFi, and the WiFi range is not really great. So probably consider going with dedicated APs instead.
Probably also check the power settings in the config file: https://kalitut.com/increase-usb-current-limit-raspberry-pi/
To extend on this: Anybody ever did a test recovery to see if the backups are ok and to dry-test their backup/restore strategy? I have to admit that until now I was too cheap to keep a spare drive array just for testing.
Tried hard to get it to run on a T470p (nvidia gpu) but did not succeed. Switched to nobara and am very happy as gaming/desktop replacement. Very sleek ootb.
