I was reading about this solution. My main laptop is a MacBook Air with M2 so I don’t think I can run any version of Linux on it. I have an old windows laptop I’m thinking about trying it on.
Would Linux still run fine on an older laptop?
Thanks! I’m already in !selfhosted@lemmy.world :) great place!
Will do! Do you have any specific communities you recommend for asking for help in Linux / self hosting type stuff? :)
So cool! So you basically kept windows in one part of your machine and ran pop os on the rest? Really cool idea!
Ooo I didn’t know about this I shall look into it.
Could you do it on Windows?
That’s so cool!!
I’m hoping to set one up later this year. I have an old laptop that has good enough specs to run it from my research - I just need to get everything off of it and swamp windows for Linux! Never did a Linux install so I’m excited.
Exactly. I’m really interested in running Linux but it would be more of something interesting to try when I have time rather than an actual OS change.
The biggest issue for me is I’m a photographer and I depend on Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, etc. I know there are open source alternatives, but from what I’ve seen they are far behind adobe.
Woowoo! Cloud has its place and I love it but it’s not for literally everything
But isn’t the intention of the fediverse to keep our people just trying to make money? Even a chill podcast needs to make money.
Although maybe since the fediverse gives users/instances so much control we could keep them in line hahaha
Tbf if you want a big following for ads and such you need to use whatever has the people on it.
Lemmy is great for personal hobbies and enjoyment, but not running/advertising a business (which I assume the podcast is).
And it should probably stay that way? Not sure.
But I’m of the opinion that stuff like Instagram/Fb/X will always be around, but I’ll stick with things like Lemmy for personal stuff.
Technically you can use anything for job networking, it’s not necessary for it to be"designed" for networking.
A Lemmy instance about your industry/niche could be a good place to meet people in your industry, and even hire ppl or search for ppl hiring.
Shit this is pretty good
Gonna download now and give it a try. Currently using Boost but trying a few different options to see what works best. A lot of people suggested Voyager but I didn’t like it very much.
This community is actually pretty active!
