They are claiming not to train AI using your videos/info theirselves. I don’t think it’s misleading just because other people can scrape that info.

I agree with you there. I’ve personally found it very interesting to try new programs and figure out each one’s layout and work flow, but I’ve found many people absolutely hate doing that. I get it, if you want to just use the product for what it’s intended for maybe you don’t want to waste time learning the differences. All of that in consideration, I don’t think gimp is that bad

It used to be way worse. I first tried gimp 10ish years ago and instead of the program running from a single window it was like the canvas, the hierarchy tree, and every other toolbox had its own separate window. I think they updated that a while ago now.

I downloaded Newpipe from the Fdroid app store and it works very similar go freetube

When I create a world for the first time it might take a couple minutes, but after the initial creation it’s really quick to load up a game

+1 for anki. I struggled for years to find anything decent for Swahili and there is more content for Swahili than I got out of Duolingo. One thing I didn’t know about anki until i tried it because I didn’t see anyone mention it, the flashcards can include pictures/videos/audio.

My big issue with paying for an ad free experience is that there are ads on videos of stolen content, and that doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon. I have this issue with SoundCloud as well. Random people will upload mixtapes of other artists that were originally released for free, but SoundCloud will run ads over it. It’s obvious the creators aren’t getting paid. I don’t understand how that’s even legal. Even if you argue that the service of using the website shouldn’t be completely free, they are profiting off of stolen content.

I don’t use TikTok but wasn’t it heavily criticized for censoring pro-Hong Kong content?

That’s like saying Twitter isn’t social media because its a microblog. Lemmy is definitely social media. We have profiles, can add each other as friends, send private messages, etc. It’s not structured the same as most other social media websites, but it is social media
