  • I’m not a fan of healthy young people using e-bikes but the speed argument is in bad faith. To hit 20mph for more than a short moment you have to be a fit, experienced rider unless you have a fancy race bike which is tricky to ride and will massively limit where you can ride, the comfort and safety for anyone who doesn’t basically live on their bike.

  • So what? It’s like pointing out the sky is blue. He got some internet fame a couple of years ago for being good at handling hecklers. This entire video is a pathetic attempt at capitalizing from mindless political outrage and the entire format of the video is nothing more than pandering in the hope that he gets blessed by the algorithm. I don’t disagree with the statement, I disagree with the format.
Most comedians are dumb as shit and we should demand higher quality when we consume political content. A ten year old could make this video (with sources).

  • I see your concerns. I think we can’t avoid using our land. The alternative would be not existing. Also we have to agree that most people demand a degree of consumerism that puts a strain on the resources we have. That’s the reality we face. Paper is a very necessary good and probably will be forever. The production of paper is resource intensive. Removing lignin would reduce our demand of resources.
I don’t see big poplar forests with the whole purpose of harvesting cellulose as that problematic if we keep in mind that this also gives more space for habitats we have to protect. What this research promises is that we can make the best of what we have because that is all we have left after we ravaged the planet and are not willing to stop that.

  • Aside of changing abiotic factors we’re rapidly losing biodiversity. Not only species but genetic variation in populations. If a species has little genetic variety it has less capacity to survive extreme events as a whole. I wanted to point that out just in case someone comes to the conclusion that you can just bounce back all willy nilly from a shrunken population.
