I’m not sure I understand what you are saying. What part of the OS should managed the packages? The creators aka. Microsoft/Linux foundation/Apple/Google, the distributor, or a kernel module? What about cross platform package managers like Nuget, gradle, npm?

I see it as it’s easy to self host. But I’m not skilled nor rich enough to guarantee the availability of it. I don’t want to be stuck on a holiday without my passwords because my server back home died from black out or what have you.

I pay for bitwarden and the proton mail package to keep the password management market a bit more competitive and it actually works out cheaper. It would be nice to have protons anonymous emails built in, but I can live with it.

But I might have to reconsider if Bitwarden is going a different direction that what I’m paying for.

Do I understand it right that it’s a free replacement of the still copyrighted game assists such as textures and models, and not the code itself? I’m curios if the level design wouldn’t also fall into this.

Yeah the issue is I wouldn’t want to compromise quality too much. But I might just start saving up now for whatever valve is cooking up next :) Another issue with using a quest is that you have to run the occulus app (when wired), eating up some of that sweet precious VRAM.

I got a Quest 3 that I use with a USB-c cable. Price is great but having to fiddle around with video compression settings on top of all other VR settings has proven to be a bit tedious. I’m still trying to figure out what pcvr headset to go for that won’t complete drain my bank account (there’s probably tons of used ones out there).

Glad to hear VR is possible and getting better on Linux though!

Oh what’s your Linux setup for VR? I thought it was very janky still? Once I get my storage server set up I was planing on moving fully to windows except for a small drive for VR titlea.

Thanks for asking, made me go look again. I had mixed up Lemmy.world owner Ruud and the creator of Lemmy itself and admin of lemmy.ml. Ruud seems chill, lemmy.ml less so.

There’s a bit of choice paralasys when joining Lemmy. Even if you know how the fediverse works you won’t have knowledge of the culture and relationships of different instances.

I joined Lemmy.world because it advertises itself as the vanilla flavour of the fediverse, so it makes it an easy pick for someone like me who didn’t quite understand how it all hangs together.

But I do agree with you, and I’m looking to migrate after some concerning things have come up about the lemmy.world owner.

I’m definitely on board with participating. It’s a bit bare around where I live, so I’d be nice to contribute to future users. I’ve already added a couple of bins and public toilets I know of!

I’m just wondering about potentially temporal data. I know everything will change eventually, but I’d feel responsible to keep info such as timetable data up to date. I wouldn’t want someone missing their bus because I gave the times as they were couple of months ago. Do you know how this is dealt with in the community?

Someone else in the thread recommended mapscomplete, which seems to have a bunch of topics, with pre arranged written questions when adding an item. I assume streetcomplete does something similar? And if I were to use open street map directly I assume I wouldn’t get these questions and it would instead be all mamual?

They could also punish false claims. Currently the copyright holders (and not even that, just something that might vaguely sound like your stuff) can automatically send out strikes for any match in the system. The burden to prove it’s fair use goes to YouTube channel, and if it’s found to not be copyright infringement nothing happens to the fraudulent claimer.

A big step would be to discourage the copyright holders from shooting from the hip.

I’ve only used DaVinci for small projects, so I don’t know their eco system too well, but what made you buy a product when you were having problems getting it to work? :O Does the studio version offer better hardware acceleration or something like that?

It was a lot of fun for me. I did it without a virtual machine (would not generally recommend) on a older laptop I wasn’t using anyway. I wasn’t very successful in the end however. My own built kernel couldn’t produce any vga output. I tried to fix it for a handful of nights, but in the end gave up and called it good enough :P So I might comeback to it later to fully complete an installation.

But it was good learning oppertunity. It showed that just compiling a version of the Linux kernel isn’t very complicated. It even comes with a very nice TUI to select your build options!

I personally swapped over to Proton Mail recently. Exporting over all saved email, groups and labels from Gmail was easy. I love it so far, it’s very similar to how Gmail works. I’ve set Gmail to forward everything to my new one so I don’t need to go to back very often.

The only bugbear I have currently is while multi-selecting emails in the inbox, then open one up to read it and back out, the selections aren’t remembered. But they are pushing improvements all the time, so I’m sure that will be fixed with time.

I don’t see these stories as about what the chat ai outputs, but more about questioning whether or not amazon should be held liable for what their AI outputs. Traditional customer support chatbots are often less than useless, but they wouldn’t go about suggesting the product they’re selling are defective or recommending offensive products. I’m of the opinion that Amazon’s review search AI thing should be held up to the same standard that a human would be. And if a person started acting like this they would surely be quickly fired.

They are a black box, and for now trying to restrain the black box has sever impact on the usefulness of the output even in easier and legit situations.
