Oh, that makes a lot of sense.
Actually, I just tried that for a bit. They’re putting random zero-width spaces. So none of the words are actually full words.

I’m going through and unsubscribing now from the few I was subbed to. One had a better community elsewhere since the last the last time I checked.
The only one I’m missing a replacement for is findacommunity, which I asked for on the community.
I guess so. I don’t mind like-minded spaces. But leaving no room for discussion just seems pointless.
Oh. I forgot about them being tankies.
I guess they don’t argue with people directly and the posts don’t seem too bad. It’s always mixed in with my other posts.
I didn’t realize it was that extreme. I mean, my comment was literally just saying that a less progressive policy was still “reasonable” even if I didn’t align with it.
I forgot about .ml being the tankies instance too.
Thanks. I guess I’ll have to start using my Beehaw account some more for some of my news.
Interesting. Thank you! I didn’t know that you could look that up. I don’t think that was an option on the Connect app.
I’m not able to access that link. But I saw where criticism of the government was treated as derogatory statements on the people.
Some reasons:
They want THEIR side to win. If their side has the power, then the other side doesn’t.
Alpha-Beta dynamic. If they submit to an authority (government, religion, boss, etc) then that means they can do whatever to who they think they have authority over (women, blacks, gays, poor, etc).
Stupidity. Some people need to be told what is good and bad. They literally cannot figure it out on their own or they are too lazy to do so.
Bigger hobby/fan content is dead. The smaller stuff doesn’t even exist. My most active subs on Reddit were NFL, Final Fantasy, Morrowind, and DnD memes. The new movie discussion threads were great too.
Now I’m just in News and Gaming mostly. But on the bright side, I don’t spend nearly as much time on here. So it’s a net positive.
He’s paid to be the face that everyone blames.
I’ve never seen someone with Republican values call themselves a Democrat.
I’ve seen a lot of people with Democratic values call themselves Republicans.
I believe they’re called communities.
Ironically, very Islamophobic of the mods.
Damn, just checked DNDmemes and they stopped doing goblin and kobold porn like a month ago.
From one of their responses, it sounds like they’re saying that the name could be misinterpreted as a dogwhistle. I think that’s a reasonable worry, but also doesn’t seem to have ever resulted in that.
Thanks, I thought it was creating new subs. Yeah, they’re desperate to give out existing subs to brand new users.
For new subs though? Is anyone clamoring for that? It sounds like bad management.
Lemmy.ml is run by tankies who allow a lot more of that than they should. Not that it’s full of them.
Something that I’ve heard recently that’s made me rethink voting by mail as a common practice. It’s very common for a head-of-household husband to be more passionate/insistent on how they vote than their wife. It’s also very common for the husband to vote one way (Republican) than the wife (Democrat).
It would be much easier to coerce (even mildly) while voting from home than at a confidential voting booth.
