  • Now, the enshittifiers aren’t taking this lying down. Take Lina Khan, the brilliant head of the US Federal Trade Commission, who has done more in three years on antitrust than the combined efforts of all her predecessors over the past 40 years. The Wall Street Journal’s editorial page has run more than 80 pieces trashing Khan, insisting that she’s an ineffectual ideologue who can’t get anything done. Sure, that’s why you ran 80 editorials about her. Because she can’t get anything done.

I love when other people realize the value of Lina Khan. I’ll vote for Biden for the sole reason to let Lina Khan do good work!

  • I am sure America is probably responsible for some of that turmoil so why we not discussing that and fixing our mess

Because America can do no wrong on its foreign policy. We are purely a force for good, opinions to the contrary merely Communist propaganda. Thus, whatever the cause is, it’s not America’s problem or responsibility to fix.

    Except, obviously, not really.

Just why are we allowing this to cause us to almost on the brink of a civil war.

Ooof…it’s not just this lol. Right-wing political elites strongly believe in personal freedom and states’ rights. Right-wing regular folks believe strong in personal freedom. For them, American personal freedom manifests as a proliferation of guns and ammo, flags on lawns, and everybody believing in the country as the city upon a hill. More importantly, it certainly does not manifest as self-reflection, following the teachings of Jesus Christ, nor running into reality at any point. Americans are right, moral, and their actions just because they’re American. That’s just the way it is for them.

So, the border crisis is an issue they feel strongly about and they’re being denied the resources to handle in the way they see fit. Personal freedom and states’ rights are being trounced all because liberal president wants to…what…claim to protect children from drowning while letting criminals (and there are so many criminals according to them with no evidence) in to ravage the country?

    This is a deep problem.

In my opinion, they’re Boomer selfishness taken to its logical conclusion in a society. It’s fine if a few people are exceedingly selfish and want everything for themselves. It’s a problem when tens of millions want it all, too.

  • Ahh, well, I’d say that the social media experience relies on platforms. The first point of 2027-28 is a…case in point. But platform economics is basically a cycle of enshittification

This is enshittification: surpluses are first directed to users; then, once they’re locked in, surpluses go to suppliers; then once they’re locked in, the surplus is handed to shareholders and the platform becomes a useless pile of shit.

Nebula is simply at the beginning, where everybody except the business owners gets surpluses. I’d predict it’s a matter of time before they start trying to take those surpluses back.

User-run and owned social media platforms like Lemmy (to some extent anyway) are likely to fare well, though Reddit seems to be doing just fine these days.

  • Because of the consumer surplus anti-trust paradigm. Comcast just needs to say that prices are as low as they would be in a more competitive environment. And cable companies in regional cable markets can tacitly collude simply by matching competitor prices. Thus, how do you prove that prices are actually too high and that Comcast and other cable companies are using their market power to abuse consumers? You can’t.

Lina Khan, the American hero that she is, is trying to pursue an old anti-trust paradigm.
