  • Make a SWOT analysis for each option. Quantify EVERYTHING you can into personally objective and subjective values. Then A/B all of those values against each other. Then sleep on it, ask other people, and then return to the SWOT tables and try to add and simplify.

If you still have troubles after that, try to figure out what about either choice you don’t know, and work to find it out with footwork and socializing, asking pointed questions, and paying attention to the things you want in life about people.

If that still doesn’t tip the scale, it’s probably because you don’t know enough about something else, probably yourself.

  • 100%, music. Get on a music service (not a video service like YouTube) and go listen to genres of music that feel good.

Music that you liked when you were 13
When you were 21, music that reminds you of the good times
Or music that fits how you feel…

Seriously, don’t underestimate the power of music. It’s literally like magic and has the power to heal, inspire, distract, inform, validate, remind, transport, stimulate, numb, etc… I became a musician because I wanted to help people through hard times and to be better people, because I realized how powerful and important it is.

Go try old stuff, too, like bob dylan. Or go listen to Linkin Park again like it’s 2003. Or go listen through the entire nutcracker suite by Tchaikovsky (i suggest looking for the decca phase 4 London festival orchestra worth robert sharples that was recorded in the 60s https://youtu.be/S7VrwRJ4t-Y?si=cmLUTdUAmg2jw7kr i think it’s the one, I’m not sure on my phone where it is on spotify). Or if you want to listen to the same song over and over and that feels good to you, then that’s what you should be doing.

Just keep searching and following the good feelings and don’t give up, like trying new sexual stuff and not trying for a specific outcome but allowing yourself to be in the moment and feel then sensations.

And feel your feelings. Just find someplace safe, get a good sound source, and let it all rip… if you feel like crying, cry. If you feel like being mad, be mad. You have to actually process your feelings.

A wise man once said to me, “there’s no bad music, only bad timing”. If it feels off or wrong, just switch it. It takes courage to try something different sometimes, though, so try not sweat it too much either way, and just remember to breathe.

  • It’s a neat, young tech that unfortunately still hasn’t been given a fair shot (it’s being used as a bunch of get-rich-quick schemes by most). I was hoping Meta would continue to develop it and gain some integrity karma, even at least as a very small team/project. At least a lot of progress has been made this round of vr hype. Maybe in 20-30 years, another wave will happen and it’ll actually take root. I’d like to see VR actually take hold and be as cool as the sci-fi stuff in my lifetime, or even proof of concept before I die, knowing that it’ll probably happen.

  • One time, we had remotes for televisions. We hated having to point them to get line of sight.

Did you know that some of the older Gameboys had this? I think it was the Gameboy color. Instead of a link cable, you’d just point two Gameboys at each other, and… Well, they had to be on a level surface like a table. And also you basically couldn’t ever move them or touch them, which was strange for a handheld. …annnnd it basically didn’t work. Ever. So Wi-Fi was pretty good!

But no, let’s go and use line of sight tech, that seems like a great idea!

I kid, I kid. I’m sure it works fine enough within its limitations for a certain purpose, I just can’t help but joke about making these connections.

  • Ehh… There’s definitely change that occurs (look at porn free people vs porn heavy people), and a risk of total destruction. But I feel like a lot of this stance IS prudish slippery-slope rhetoric and fear mongering.

Regardless, we could debate on the effects and philosophy of porn for a long time, there’s value and reality supporting all sides on this one, but I do agree we need to be careful about it and have it serve everybody, regardless of belief. This would require a lot of development to have (let’s say, pro porners and anti porners, just for sake of argument) pro and anti people both have minimal pain points whilst also growing a decentralized future with great accessibility and great data redundancy and great safety.

  • Because people really don’t want to lose the time and investment they’ve put into building these huge communities.

It’s like if the king just decides that your really healthy neighborhood and community, that you’re a community leader in and are constantly defending against the shittiest companies and groups dumping garbage all over and ruining and harassing the residents (and whatever the equivalent to blocking posters of illegal things is), will suddenly charge you an extreme amount of money to do your volunteer job, and the clubhouse leaders/owners and other businesses an insane amount of money just to use the land (because the king wants that land to put up billboards instead) - because he wasn’t making enough money on them before, but only because he wasn’t charging them any money. And in reality, the king wants to sell the kingdom to China for several billion dollars and just wants to show how much money can be made from the billboards instead of the businesses and community centers.

Man. Fuck u/spez. Outcast that mofo rather than the platform. I wish somebody would just coup his ass, but everybody in his sort of position just always ruins it. Always. So it’s the system, not solely him; it’s the goal of… Internet Platforms. It’s literally the same problem with government anywhere: if you have a monarchy, eventually, they’ll do shitty stuff and eventually try to ruin it.

    What’s the solution?

  • I always used baconreader because I’m after really compact and full function with options. I don’t want giant image cards because I’m ten million years old (I’m not, I just like the outcome of having to design around simplicity and efficiency).

However, an actual app? Made by a popular, experienced, and successful app dev? I will 100% pay for and use that even though it’s not my preferred design philosophy.

Lemmy and kbin are… alright as they are, but chrome is such a pos for multitasking and I would really love some clarity and consistency to the ux design across different instances and more and better options.

What I really want, ideally, is baconreader to make a universal fediverse app - but the likelihood of anybody making a universal app and that’s good is very low, let alone my favorite 3rd party reddit app dev that’s already said they don’t plan on it.

  • TEXTFILES! WOW! What a blast from the past! I can’t remember the last time I saw that site! Isn’t that the site that just outright hosts a copy of the anarchist’s cookbook and other similar stuff?

I remember it was all blue and I would visit it on the School computers thinking I was so edgy, but then school shootings weren’t common at all yet, and when they started, I sort of moved away from visiting sites like that entirely.

But man. MAN… I kind of want to see if it’s still there, just for the old times, but… I feel like the fbi takes stuff like that a LOT more seriously now :|

What to do, what to do…

Edit: Jfc yeah that’s the one - annnnd I’m on a list now, great :/

  • Mildly, but honestly that feels like a good thing.

Reminds me of those paper tests or quizzes in school where there’d be a paragraph of instructions in the beginning, and halfway through, it would say if you wrote your name on it and turned it in after ten minutes and wrote “potato” as the answer to #4 and just turned it in, you would get 100%, or if you just did something specific you’d get some extra credit.

The number of people that don’t read instructions is insane. Teachers were complaining about students not writing dates on stuff or some other aspect of laziness and would use this to incentivize kids to read instructions.

  • Yeah, absolutely!

Yeah you gotta at least give them an out. Always.

I AM :) actually aware of the tragedy of the Commons, and I think the prisoners dilemma is a lot closer to what I was thinking of initially than the dictator game.

Total sidenote, I actually just went to Reddit again for the first time in several days to check on the status of baconreader, the app I used for a very long time, since the app devs only post info there, on their subreddit for some reason. They’re shuttering on the 30th, removing the app from all the stores, and not currently planning a lemmy/kbin app, which is super sad because I love their ux design. It’s so strange seeing all the posts saying goodbye and thanks with all the champagne emojis and tears.
