Been using Thunderbird for almost 20 years. It was good enough that long ago and it’s pretty awesome these days.

I already voted so I can’t vote for him either.
I stopped in today after months because my friend is launching a game and I wanted to give them a like and a comment. When I left Twitter my feed was just nerd shit and makers.
When I logged in today it was several right wing advertisements at the top. When I went to search it was more Trump shit. I just wanted to support my indie friend. That’s it for me.
I’ve had DataTraveller sticks since the late 90s/early 00s. Never given me a problem.
This is what I looked like back when I jammed with the console cowboys in cyberspace.
It’s a fucking shame that he has more money than god and couldn’t get someone to help him pick out a cowboy hat that would fit his face. Or tell him when it’s backwards. Or have it properly shaped. Or have it customized in any way.
I have no issue with someone wearing a cowboy hat who has never been near a ranch. I have no issue with people who don’t know what to do with one but want to wear one. They’re practical and can be stylish. I have a huge issue with someone who can afford to have an army of image consultants wearing it incorrectly to pander to idiots who are too cowardly to call him out on it.
Wait, it got made?!? Now I’m excited.
Ah, the ol’ Lemmy Pokeroo.
Every company I’ve worked for either gave us digital gift cards or, when I was a manager, let us charge meals specifically to our business credit card for a certain amount per month (team outings) without prior approval.
Defederation makes it so that figuring out which instance to sign up with in order to see your friends and local businesses (since we’re talking about vs Facebook instead of Twitter or Reddit) would be a nightmare for the average person.
I have multiple accounts on some services trying to get to everything I want to see. I mostly gave up on Pixelfed. My main Mastodon account can see people on other instances but has problems seeing their posts. And I’m absolutely not willing to troubleshoot it because between work, a social life, and other hobbies I just don’t have the time or give a shit.
I like the fediverse. I’m here. I use it. But I’m only going to use what’s convenient and I promise that I have more patience than the average non tech person who wants to sign up using a linked Gmail account and see all the things they expect to see without having to think about it.
Edit: I think my brain skipped the last two sentences in that comment. I just sat here and bitched about something that was already mentioned. I have brought nothing to this discussion and have brought shame upon my house.
I use a VPN for the same reason I use the Internet. Porn.
I don’t know if you’re right or if you’re trying to sell me something, but you sound knowledgeable so I’m in. Where do I send my cash?
Yeah, but I need to know what the one after AI is going to be so I can get in on the ground floor.
Is that the MMO where they read Ready Player One and said “Yep, I’m ready to build a mesh peer-to-peer MMO because that means there will be no discernable lag for an infinite number of people, just like in the book”?
I’m considering stealing your comment and selling it to the highest bidder. How much ether do you think it would take to knock you out?
And ebaum’s world. And rotten. And something awful.
I never put that together with wardriving but that’s exactly what it is. Thank you for that.
Unrelated story: ~20 years ago I was in the military and broke as hell. I went wardriving in my neighborhood looking for open wifi and found a business not too far away that had it. So I built an antenna out of a coffee can, mounted it up just outside my window, and got free wifi for months.
There’s another reply further down that goes into specifics. I ain’t the one because I didn’t come with receipts and I’m just a drunk.
I wish I could go back in time to warn myself not to read this. The memory of receiving those (and other awful shit) is indelibly marked in my brain.
This is a HUGE reason. I didn’t know when I first signed up for Lemmy that I was on what is essentially a tankie instance. I didn’t know when I signed up for Pixelfed that I wasn’t going to be able to see shit because the first server I signed up for wasn’t really federated with anyone and I’ve mostly given up on it. I still can’t see a bunch of stuff on Mastodon without switching through several accounts with no rhyme or reason.
I’ve said before that I obviously like it here because I’m using the services, but it’s not easy. Most people don’t know about the fediverse, and most of those that do want to be passive about maintaining their social media. Most of the fediverse is built for nerds.
