Yeah I actually don’t want ALL of Reddit to end up here and for it to replicate it. I like this much better. I feel like there are actual grown ups here.
That’s worse than last time I used it, which is when they were still giving free awards to use but you had to use their app to get them.
Maybe they won’t, maybe they’ll just stay addicted to clicking on bot generated content, and arguing with bots. Reddit has become yet another website that drives unhealthy and toxic behaviours, because profit, and it can be hard for people to get out of that. Honestly, thank fuck all this API stuff finally made a bunch of us leave, because I’m glad I’m out of there and over here, it’s such a relief.
It really is a breath of fresh air, and has highlighted for me how dumb and angry so much of Reddit has become.
Childish smirk of the day…
https://reddark.untone.uk/ shows that r/SexInFrontOfOthers is public.
I just had a quick look on the front page on mobile browser, not logged in, and the top 2nd, 3rd, and 4th ‘hot’ posts are about the blackout, and the ‘top’ post is a thank you from the Apollo app creator.
(This is my first attempt at uploading a pic on here so 🤞)
Honestly, I feel like my time with Reddit is done now. You know how when someone breaks up with you and you’re in shock that it’s over but then you start reflecting and realising everything that was wrong with the relationship? That. I feel like Lemmy, and the fediverse, is a really interesting alternative way of doing things, I’m not the most tech savvy (or the least) and at nearly 50 it’s a bit harder for me to pick up new concepts than it was 20 years ago, but I’ll get the hang of it, and I actually think that this will end up being a positive change for me. There is so much wrong with the corporatisation of the internet, and this does feel like a viable and genuine alternative to that.
I use Bandcamp instead of Spotify now, because that’s what most of my musician friends use to sell their music and recommend as the best way of supporting artists directly, and some of my favourite current artists are active on there. Yeah I can’t just stream and make playlists of whatever I want, and it’s more for new music than older stuff, but I can scroll through and play the suggested tracks which are far more interesting and diverse than anything Spotify would suggest to me, and then I can buy the stuff I really like. I’m slowly building up enough stuff that way to have an interesting collection on my phone to listen to, and it’s also introduced me to some really cool music that I wouldn’t have heard about from Spotify.
