It was self-fulfilling for me. I started self-hosting and messing with networking before I went into IT. I thought I’d be in a very different field until ~10 years ago.

As a general rule, I tend to focus on a title or a series of {books,tv,movies,games,musician,etc}, consume it to death over the course of a handful of weeks/months, then lose interest and never touch it ever again.

I had a big Soulslike phase in the middle of the pandemic. Before that it was Rocket League. I’ve gamed very little these last months in between a million consecutive life events, but the little time I had to play was almost exclusively on Monster Hunter (I just reached Iceborne in MHW).

The one game I had a legitimately problematic relationship with was Counter Strike, as a teen and young adult. Nowadays, I still have the general game sense but the reflexes and skills are long gone, and I don’t have the time to dedicate to getting to a level I’d feel good at.

The newest Teams app (and I think newest Outlook amongst others) is using system/Edge provided WebViews rather than Electron, which I guess takes care of the “each app gets its own Chrome instance” part of the Electron bloat. It’s so far running better than old Teams for me. On my old work laptop, the fans spun up the second the old Teams client launched lol

Yeah… I’m a total mess without, almost as dramatic a difference as the ADHD meds, but it’s just insane how much.

Hah, that’s Cipralex for me. Works wonders for the anxiety for me, but it really kills sex drive.

Vyvanse takes the cake for me, easy. But which brain meds work for you is heavily dependent on your particular brain chemistry.

Otherwise, obsessive usage of alarms and reminders is the best crutch I’ve found to remain somewhat productive.

Tech lead here, but same idea. The chaos and variety is exactly what I love about my job too.

American Idiot and the what, 3 albums before it and all the following, were all on Reprise Records (Warner). American Idiot specifically had some very strong marketing campaigns. If one really does subscribe to that “selling out” rhetoric, they did so much earlier than that.

Did these conservatives miss American Idiot, or are they just being reactionary as they so often are?

CDs just don’t have that “collector’s item” characteristic (yet?). Physical album sales are low enough nowadays that enthusiasts that are looking for a specific medium probably make up a very large portion of the buyers.

They definitely update the photos, just faster in some areas than others, visibly.

Not gonna lie, I never really asked myself if nano was still in active development or not. It has just always felt like it was “finished” in some way.

I seem to remember hearing about Plasma having similar memory usage to XFCE. Don’t quote me on that lol

I’m curious what made it that complicated. Was the Synology OS (DSM they call it right?) fighting you along every step or something? As far as I know it’s a custom Linux OS but I have no idea what it’s based on, or if it’s even based on a specific distribution… I could definitely see it being a challenge depending on the answers haha.

There are still some things you just cannot really do on Linux, although they’re getting more far and between than ever. On the audio production side of things, DAWs are slowly popping up (having Bitwig and Reaper in there is HUGE), but most VST plugins just don’t exist or work on there. VR gaming is also kind of pain…

If it wasn’t that it’s Nvidia and that you bought this specifically for Linux, I’d have told you to keep the Nvidia, as you did get a significantly better card for the price you paid.

Swims is an incredible singer, discovered him with the handful of singles Wildheart released with him as the singer, then just disbanded/disappeared. Didn’t know Too Many Zooz covered that song! Leo is an insanely talented sax player as well, controls the instrument like I’ve seen few do before.

I played in a (very local) band as a young adult and got to open for a couple of my favorite bands of the time (HC/*core scene of late 00s). It was great. The best show I’ve ever opened for was also my favorite show of all time, room was tiny but packed from the first second of the set. Just hanging out around the door and you’d be talking with some band members, most of the time.

You don’t have to convince me with regards to late-stage capitalism, rest assured…

I’ve stopped going to large stadium shows for the most part a good while ago. It’s just getting ridiculous. Most of the best shows I’ve ever been at have all been in smaller venues anyway…
