Google owns both Chrome and your password manager, at any time they are perfectly capable of pulling the plug on them, leaking data, charging you for them, etc.

I’ve moved completely to Arch and I don’t think I’m going back. It supports every game I’ve wanted to play up until now except Fall Guys, worst case I’ll set up a small Windows partition or VM for the couple of exceptions that I still want to play

Thank you, I’m tired of everyone taking this too far. I’m also hardly against authoritarian regimes of any kind, left and right, but this is a generic use open source software we’re talking about, not a political party. I support the platform and I appreciate all the devs for what they do, it’s really good software and it makes me happy as a programmer myself to see social media code that isn’t filled with bloat and spaghetti code or malicious anti privacy features

It used to be for me too, but I got used to the idea and I feel like it really takes a load off my mind now, not only on the browser but IDEs and any other application with tabs. If you don’t remember why something is open, you probably don’t need it that much

I agree that AI is definitely very upcoming (already here actually), but I seriously fear it’s going to be for the worse overall.
Every country should be putting down serious rules about AI while it’s still early enough to prevent the problems.
The European Union is already at it, I hope they are bringing in many experts from different fields and try to enforce it all strictly.

I think this point has been overexaggerated a bit. Sure, the main devs might support the CCP and actively try to silence critisicm about it, but the software is open source and decentralised for exactly this purpose. Anyone can fork it and host it themselves, and users can use any other instance which allows free speech with practically no difference in user experience.

I think both Kbin and Lemmy are great software, I am using both hoping that at least one of the two ends up becoming popular
