Do everything you can to try to preserve those settings, because you will need to do a clean install at some point (well maybe not, I’m sure it depends on your distro), and you’re gonna lose all of it.

Yup. As someone who hasn’t had a dedicated gaming PC in about a decade, I’ve been really happy with the PS5 + Steam Deck combo (well, plus Switch, but that thing collects dust until Nintendo releases a Mario platformer).
I recently got a laptop that’s not made for gaming specifically, but can handle them pretty well (with Proton), and that has scratched any itch I’ve had for PC games that don’t lend themselves to Deck or console (your RTS games and such).
At risk of giving away the game… I think people would be very surprised to see how cheap physical copies of PS4 and PS5 games go for when you catch them on sale.

That is pricey… However, as someone who has an ifixit toolkit that contains just about every shape and size of screwdriver bit ever imaginable (and several that defy explanation), it has been the most useful tool I have ever purchased. I can’t even count how many times I’ve used it.
And the quality is outstanding.

I have never really had much use for it, so never have installed it, but it seems like everyone here uses Docker, which is surprising given the cost and what you just said.
Took me weeks to figure out a way to run a script at startup in a konsole window that gets hidden but continues running in the background. Tmux could do it but I found it cumbersome.
screen did the trick with a single command.

Baloo only takes up a lot of CPU if you have it set to index file contents and hidden files. Shut those off, let it index completely, and it won’t happen ever again.
You might be able to keep “hidden files” on, but indexing file contents always bogged my laptop down.

I’m KDE you can literally just start typing anywhere on the desktop (or set it up to activate with a hotkey), and it’ll use krunner to search your PC, and do a bunch of other shit if you want. Never had anything about task bars interfere with it whatsoever.
In fact, it has saved my ass a few times when plasma shell would crash and I couldn’t access a terminal for whatever reason, I was able to use krunner to restart plasma shell. Very useful.

What they said, but yes also the wriggling. It’s probably fine for now, but I have had devices where the port did get worn out that way after years of use and just incidental wiggling and that was enough to make the port extremely loose and jiggly.
I get that, but it just happens far too often to be coincidence.
I’m not going to claim to know how, but it’s naive to take the word of corporations when we have so much circumstantial evidence that shows these firms are targeting people with ads for things that they had never shown interest in, but happened to mention once in the presence of a device with a microphone and internet connection. There have been people who have tested this, and have gotten results that indicate that this just cannot be a coincidence. It has happened to me personally on several occasions (before I started keeping my mic off at the OS level, hasn’t happened since).
I’ve been around long enough to know that, just because the general public doesn’t know how some proprietary tech that corporations spend billions on R&D for might work, doesn’t mean it’s impossible. People have come up with insane shit, and that’s just the stuff that people have voluntarily (usually) disclosed. God knows what kind of proprietary shit is out there that we have no awareness of.
