You’re right, 5 deaths isn’t newsworthy in the context of tens of thousands killed by human drivers each year.
Is it worse than human drivers is the only relevant point of comparison, which the article doesn’t make.

Unless it’s a higher rate than human drivers per mile or hours driven I do not care. Article doesn’t have those stats so it’s clickbait as far as I’m concerned
I had to ditch ddg when they started injecting my vpn’s geoip as a search term in almost every search. It was to the point where I could literally be including an actual city and state as a search term and I would mostly get results for the vpn’s location. Naturally there is no option to disable this behavior.
Startpage is nice though doing the same thing now, fuck.
“but it feels like old reddit”. My god, imagine actively preferring the new reddit UI. Let them keep their shiny jangling keys instead of coming over here and pestering the devs for a snoovatar feature or whatever nonsense.
The ‘maybe read for 2 minutes to figure it out’ miniscule barrier to entry is a feature not a bug.
you should always have external backups for your important data anyway
you can just export/import your user settings. You only lose comment history but you can just check that from a different instance if you want to.
Commercial vehicles are still fine if you can tolerate it. Might be the best option in 15 years if nothing else. I have a '19 transit van and it has no way of phoning home, the only infotainment is the one I installed. I haven’t researched too deeply but I assume the transit connect line is similar and if it is I’m considering making one my next personal vehicle.
Oh no, stop, don’t do the right thing for the wrong reason
Completely irrelevant to whether or not FSD is safer than human drivers.
