  • USAID had sent Blinken a detailed 17-page memo on Israel’s conduct. The memo described instances of Israeli interference with aid efforts, including killing aid workers, razing agricultural structures, bombing ambulances and hospitals, sitting on supply depots and routinely turning away trucks full of food and medicine.

The U.N. has declared a famine in parts of Gaza. The world’s leading independent panel of aid experts found that nearly half of the Palestinians in the enclave are struggling with hunger. Many go days without eating. Local authorities say dozens of children have starved to death — likely a significant undercount. Health care workers are battling a lack of immunizations compounded by a sanitation crisis. Last month, a little boy became Gaza’s first confirmed case of polio in 25 years

Christ this is so grim. How can Blinken and Biden read shit like this and then smile and wave about it.

  • I can’t speak to your modem situation exactly, but I believe you only need the newer modem if you are actually getting that bandwidth from your provider. If you are pretty well below the 3.0 ceiling, I think you’re probably just fine.

Re: the router: a newer one can be helpful if you are having issues with wireless devices farther from the router losing connection. If you have a big house, you would be better off with mesh. If you have a small house or apartment, a new Wifi 6 router would solve that problem for you. And most importantly: if you aren’t experiencing any obvious issues with your wifi, it probably isn’t worth the price of an upgrade.

  • Here’s a link to the Tom’s Hardware post about AMD’s new GPU strategy, cited in the GN video.

Some thoughts after watching this part of the video:

    • Sounds like AMD is hitting the point where AMD cards are a complete afterthought for devs, because NVIDIA has both dominant market share and the best performance by all metrics except price. But devs don’t care about what consumers are paying for cards, they only care about developing for the card that most users have. And so, AMD is giving up on the top-end to focus on clawing back market share in the mid and entry level where NVIDIA doesn’t compete as hard.
    • AMD is essentially swapping rivals, from NVIDIA to Intel, as Intel is targeting the same market that AMD is pivoting to. It’ll be interesting to see how that shakes out.
    • NVIDIA will essentially have a monopoly on the top-end GPU market. I am not looking forward to that.

EDIT: I’m noticing on my Sync app for android that the bulleted list doesn’t seem to be working right, although the bullets are working correctly on desktop. Just wanted to point that out for mobile only users - this is supposed to be a bulleted list!

  • From the article:

the role of monarch is not hereditary: The successor is determined by tribal representatives from across the nation.

The ceremonies took place in Tūrangawaewae Marae on the North Island, which is the seat of the Maori King movement.

The political institution developed in the 1850s, when Maori tribes decided to unify under a single sovereign in the face of an influx of British settlers and demand for their land, as well as broader political marginalization.

Today the role of the Maori monarch is largely symbolic. As a former British colony and current member of the British Commonwealth, New Zealand’s official monarch is King Charles.

So I don’t think this is monarchy in the way that you are thinking. The “Maori Monarch” is more of a political leader than anything, so in a US context, it’s kind of like the NAACP selecting a new president.
